Inside Mark Rietveld’s Nearly Two-Decade Career in Global Festival Production

EDC 2026

From Tomorrowland and Defqon.1 to EDC Las Vegas, the Co-Owner and Creative Director of 360 Show Design has built an international career encompassing major festivals, large-scale entertainment productions, and industry-recognized projects.

Over the past two decades, festival production has developed into an increasingly sophisticated creative field, with stage architecture, visual technology, and artistic direction playing central roles in the presentation of live entertainment. Mark Rietveld’s career has unfolded alongside this evolution, placing him within the creative development of numerous internationally established festivals and major events.

As Co-Owner and Creative Director of 360 Show Design, Rietveld has contributed to the design and realization of productions that bring together architectural concepts, lighting, visual effects, and advanced technical systems. The international company specializes in stage design, creative direction, production development, and immersive entertainment, working with festival organizers, promoters, artists, and brands to create environments tailored to their respective audiences and artistic objectives.

His professional experience includes Defqon.1 Festival, Qlimax, Mysteryland, Tomorrowland, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Creamfields Chile, Lost Lands Festival, So Track Boa, No Art Festival, Verknipt, and EDC Las Vegas, alongside major productions throughout Australia. These assignments represent a broad range of entertainment formats and geographic markets, demonstrating the international scope of his work and his sustained involvement in large-scale creative production.

Notable Achievements in Live Entertainment

Among the significant projects in 360 Show Design’s portfolio is its contribution to a production at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the Netherlands that achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest laser show. Featuring 1,100 lasers, the event required extensive technical planning and coordination to deliver an installation of exceptional scale.

The company’s work on the Lost Lands Festival Grand Finale also received a nomination for a Live Entertainment Production Award (LEPA) in 2026. This distinction recognized its involvement in a major festival production and added to the company’s growing portfolio of internationally prominent projects.

Together, these achievements illustrate the range of assignments undertaken by 360 Show Design, from technically demanding installations to elaborate festival environments. They also reflect the specialized knowledge required to develop productions in which architectural design, visual systems, and operational planning must function as a coordinated whole.

For Rietveld, the creative process begins with understanding the identity of the event itself. Rather than developing a stage as an isolated structure, he considers how its appearance, configuration, and technical capabilities can contribute to the overall presentation. This approach allows design elements to serve the artistic direction of the production while responding to the practical demands of the venue.

The Creative Team Behind 360 Show Design

Rietveld’s leadership at 360 Show Design is supported by an experienced team of production and design professionals, including Bart Straver, Head of Production, and Pieter Truijen, Head of Design.

Straver oversees technical planning, production coordination, and the logistical requirements involved in delivering major live events. Truijen leads the development of stage concepts, working to translate artistic objectives into architectural and visual designs that can be implemented within the conditions of each production.

Rietveld directs the broader creative process, connecting these areas of expertise and guiding the development of each project’s visual identity. Their collaboration allows creative planning and technical preparation to progress together, helping ensure that the intended concept remains consistent through the various stages of production.

The team’s international experience includes assignments throughout Europe, North America, South America, Central America, Australia, and the Middle East. Each region presents different production environments, venue requirements, and organizational considerations, requiring the company to adapt its approach while maintaining the creative objectives of its projects.

EDC Las Vegas and a Diverse 2026 Production Portfolio

Throughout 2026, 360 Show Design has contributed to several major international productions, including Verknipt Ziggo Dome, Don’t Let Daddy Know Amsterdam, Verknipt Warehouse Special Easter, Kingsland Festival, Empire Music Festival in Guatemala, Verknipt Unrestricted, EDC Las Vegas, and Verknipt Festival Utrecht.

A particularly notable project was the redesign of the Basspod stage at EDC Las Vegas 2026. As a recognizable feature of the festival, Basspod presented an opportunity to develop a renewed visual concept for an established entertainment environment.

360 Show Design’s involvement centered on the stage’s architectural and creative development, introducing an updated presentation informed by the company’s experience in stage design and technical integration. The project added another prominent American festival to Rietveld’s professional portfolio and demonstrated the company’s ability to undertake assignments within established international event brands.

The redesign also reflects the considerations involved in adapting an existing festival stage. Architectural changes, visual systems, and production requirements must be evaluated together to create an environment that introduces a new artistic direction while remaining suitable for the demands of the event.

Beyond EDC Las Vegas, the company’s 2026 schedule included productions across Europe and Central America, highlighting its continued activity in different international markets. From indoor arenas to outdoor festivals, these assignments required creative solutions appropriate to the specific format and setting of each event.

A Perspective Shaped by Experience

Throughout his professional career, Rietveld has maintained that the success of a production depends on more than its technical capabilities or physical scale. The purpose of the design, and the experience it creates for the audience, remain central to his approach.

“Great show design is about creating moments people remember,” says Rietveld. “Every project starts with a vision, but it’s the collaboration between creative ideas and technical expertise that turns that vision into something audiences can truly experience.”

His perspective reflects the relationship between artistic direction and technical execution that has shaped his work across festivals, touring productions, and major entertainment events. It also illustrates the importance of bringing different professional disciplines together when developing complex live environments.

Nearly two decades into his career, Rietveld’s portfolio encompasses longstanding involvement with prominent European festivals, major productions across multiple continents, and projects associated with a Guinness World Record and an industry award nomination. Through his role at 360 Show Design, he continues to contribute to the creative development of live entertainment, drawing upon extensive experience in stage architecture, visual design, and international production.

As new projects expand the company’s portfolio, Rietveld remains involved in shaping the environments through which audiences experience some of the world’s established live entertainment events.
